My Mini-European Vacation!

June 14, 2010

Just kidding. Of course I didn’t go to Europe. I don’t have time to go to Europe. Shit, I don’t even have time to go to the supermarket. The first photo is actually a private school near Anguk and the second photo is over a mall in Wangshimni (or Caesar’s Palace). That mall, actually features women dressed up in Rococo outfits pretending to be robots. SO CREEPY. I can’t explain why– maybe because it’s a reverse uncanny valley? Anyway, I was talking with Russell on how Korea, has, to put it delicately, a hard-on for fancy smancy European culture (as well as a hard-on for New York. No one has a hard-on for Los Angeles, which is sad)… but of course this is built from the ideal of what Europe is, etc etc (I have been told the usage of the word simulacrum is obnoxious).

In short, I have been very busy. I work a lot. And when I’m not working, I’m trying to be productive in other ways. It’s a change of pace from my cat-like 12 hour sleeping routine, but I guess there’s something, well, rewarding about it. I was going to write a rant about summer– that foul season of sweat, but basically it’s the same complaints from my two previous summers here (TWO PREVIOUS SUMMERS HERE GAAAAH). No mosquitos this year though! (crosses fingers). I think this is because I sleep with my repellent nestled up close to my pillows. Hm. Is that poisonous? Oh well!

Went bowling with my friends at Pierrot Strike in Apgujeong. I recommend consuming the sliders before you go to the lanes for a game, mostly because the coagulated fat glows in the dark.

That’s all!

Except for that I went to Cafe Absinthe (click for a link to Fat Man Seoul’s review, I don’t even know why I even bothered writing about food when there are such good websites out there) and had a milk fondant cupcake. Splendiferiumcious. Also had a few sips of the absinthe iced tea– also delicious (though I guess not quite acceptable on a school night– sorry!).
